Xenical (orlistat) is an innovative weight loss medication that aids individuals in managing obesity by inhibiting the absorption of dietary fats in the intestine. Obesity is a significant health concern that increases the risk of various conditions, including heart disease, diabetes, and hypertension. Xenical offers a unique approach to weight management by preventing the breakdown and absorption of about 30% of the fat consumed in a meal, which is then excreted from the body. This reduction in fat absorption helps lower overall caloric intake, making it easier for individuals to lose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. When combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise, Xenical can significantly improve weight loss outcomes and reduce obesity-related health risks. It is a valuable tool for those struggling with weight management, providing support and efficacy in achieving long-term weight loss goals.

A population-based sample of Filipino patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) was collected from the Philippines. One hundred and twenty-nine patients with DM with comorbidities, DM patients with an estimated body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 kg/m2, or patients with a BMI >30 kg/m2 were considered. Two hundred and fifty-two patients with DM with DM with comorbidities, DM patients with an estimated BMI >30 kg/m2 were used as the reference population. We assessed the impact of the DM treatment on the patient’s risk factors for DM (i.e. obesity, DM medication, diabetes medications, insulin, insulin glargine, and anti-diabetic agents) using the International Index of Erectile Function-Erectile Function (IIEF-EF) questionnaire. We identified a significant association between the use of obesity drugs and the risk of DM and comorbidities (P < 0.05). Obesity drugs were found to reduce the risk of DM and comorbidities by a mean of 1.3-1.6 kg/m2 and 1.1-1.3 kg/m2, respectively. The use of anti-diabetic agents was found to reduce the risk of DM and comorbidities by 0.6-0.7 kg/m2 and 0.6-0.8 kg/m2, respectively. The use of anti-diabetic agents was also found to be significantly associated with the risk of DM. The study findings should be taken into consideration when interpreting the results of this study and other studies on this topic.

The use of medications that induce weight loss in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with significant risk factors for the development of diabetes in a large population. In the Philippines, DM is a major cause of morbidity and mortality due to a combination of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome []. In the Philippines, DM is a prevalent condition with an estimated worldwide prevalence of about 1% []. Diabetes mellitus is a multifactorial condition, and it results in substantial health consequences, including an increased risk of cardiovascular, renal, and metabolic disorders [, ]. As DM is often linked to the use of insulin in the Philippines, there is a need for a large population-based sample of DM patients with DM, in whom it is possible to reduce the use of insulin-containing drugs [, ]. In order to reduce the use of insulin-containing drugs, several insulin-containing medications are available in the Philippines [–]. One of these is Orlistat, a prescription-only drug that has been approved for use in the Philippines for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus []. Orlistat is one of the most frequently prescribed medications in the Philippines, with annual sales exceeding $1 billion []. Orlistat was developed to improve the efficacy of insulin in the Philippines, and it has been shown to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and other cardiovascular diseases by as much as 10% [].
